Neurotoxin (Botox) Injections

Cosmetic neurotoxins like Xeomin are used to relax targeted muscles that cause wrinkles and expression lines. The number of units needed varies based on muscle strength, facial anatomy, and desired results.

Common treatment areas and typical unit ranges:

• Frown Lines (Glabella / “11s”): 15–25 units
• Forehead Lines: 8–20 units
• Crow’s Feet: 10–24 units

To help ensure the best results and reduce complications:

• Avoid blood thinners if possible (e.g., aspirin, ibuprofen, certain supplements like fish oil, vitamin E) for 1 week prior, unless prescribed by your doctor.
   
• Skip alcohol 24 hours before your appointment—alcohol can increase bruising.
   
• Avoid facial treatments like chemical peels, microdermabrasion, or laser resurfacing 1–2 days prior.
   
• Tell your injector about medications, allergies, or prior Botox history.
   
• Don’t over-exfoliate or sunburn the areas to be treated.

To protect results and minimize side effects:

• Avoid rubbing or massaging the treated area for 24 hours.
   
• Stay upright for 3–4 hours after injections; avoid lying down or heavy bending.
   
• No strenuous exercise for 24 hours.
   
• Skip alcohol for 24 hours—reduces bruising and swelling.
   
• Avoid facial treatments (peels, laser, microdermabrasion) for at least 24–48 hours.
   
• Follow up if you notice unusual swelling, drooping, or asymmetry.

Xeomin (Xeomin) is a safe, FDA-approved cosmetic neurotoxin, but like any treatment, it carries some potential risks:

Common, mild side effects:

• Redness, swelling, or bruising at the injection site
   
• Mild headache or flu-like symptoms
   
• Temporary eyelid or eyebrow droop (usually resolves in 1–2 weeks)
   
• Slight asymmetry as muscles adjust
   

Less common, more serious risks:

• Allergic reactions (rare)
   
• Spread of toxin beyond the injection site (very rare, can cause muscle weakness in nearby areas)
   
• Trouble swallowing or breathing if injected incorrectly near the neck
